Time is Flying

Well it has been 12 whole days since my last post. Twice I tried to post but blogger was messed up and I gave up. Okay so my parents are coming to visit in a couple of days. It will be nice to see them. Hopefully the weather will stay as nice. I did finish some projects. I finished the knitted hat for Frida. I also finished the pillow cases for my friend. I started a donkey from Ottobre design. I've cut all the pieces and have started sewing the body. Maybe by the time a finish sewing the donkey I will have a digital camera so I can take some pics. The weather here has been really really nice and if continues then I may get really bad about posting. Okay well now I'm exhausted ...Frida was a real BRAT today. But I'm sure she will be her super self tomorrow. It was a one off, I'm sure.

Rain Rain GO AWAY

It is raining today ...just like yesterday and, if the weatherman is right, then just like the rest of the week. I actually like rain but I grew up in Texas. Houston, to be exact, where the rain is steamy and fat. Yeah big fat rain. The rain here is not fat it is the kind of rain you barely notice until all of a sudden you are wet. And you don't like it because it is cold ...yes cold somewhere around 5 C which is 41 F. Sorry but this "blows". It is JUNE for heavens sake. My parents have been running their AC since March and we are running our heat and it is JUNE! Okay enough about the weather. I'm off to drink a nice hot cup of coffee ....my bones are cold.

An hour left

I have an hour left before I have to pick up my dd from Spielgruppe. So in my 3 hours what have I achieved? hmmmm I did a couple of loads of laundry and I finished painting this cheap dresser with scenes from "Dr. Suess" books. I still don't have a camera so I can't post pictures but it looks okay. This past week I tried to make a pointy kitty from the free Wee Wonderfuls pattern. My sewing was crap and hurried so it looks very sloppy but my dd loves it so it isn't so bad after all. I've been surfing blogs lately and there are really some great sites out there. I've got a handful of science blogs and websites on "My Yahoo" and have been checking them regularly. Two things : They remind me how much I enjoyed doing research and also how there are so many PhDs out there that can not advance in this field and I am one of them. I love being at home with my dd and taking care of my family but at some point they won't need me to stay home but to go out and earn some money so what am I going to do? I had always thought about teaching but that doesn't make any money... Sales? better potential to make money...I will definitely need to work on my appearance.... Consultant? not sure .....need to investigate that further. Well I have a few years at home still. :)
Now for the rest of my time I will be cleaning!!!

Splinter, Science and no coherent thought

So I have been meaning to post several times this week. I even had things I wanted to post about such as being a women in science and staying at home now to be with my dd and how hard it will be to start working again since I will most likely have a big 5 year gap on my cv. But, alas, between my dd, dh, cleaning, cooking and my other hobbies these posts are lost in the recesses of my mind. Since, I have a moment now to post all I can think about is that my dd just showed me a splinter in her heel which she must have gotten sometime yesterday (no wonder she wanted me to carry her everywhere). This is one of those things I've been dreading as a parent. I got a lot of splinters in my life and they were painful. I have actually thought about how much I will dread pulling a splinter out of Frida and now the day has come.
Okay wish me luck!

Okay first package:

So I started to make a list of friends to send gifts to and realized I have a lot of friends and I have been neglecting all of them. The first package I'm working on is for Jason. Jason was my lab mate in grad. school. He (and Connie (other labmate and now sister-in-law) made my time in grad. school the best. Since we have graduated I have seen him a handful of times but I really should keep up with him more. He lives in Belgium now, doing a post-doc. So anyway, what to put in the gift? First off I'm going to make a pointy kitty for him (wee wonderfuls). He was painting me something but I don't know if he got very far...maybe if I make something he will finish his painting. The other thing I know I will send him is "Pussy Flakes". This is a brand of cat food here in Switzerland. He has a cat so the food won't go to waste. I know it is a bit juvenile but ...Well there you go that is who I am! My husband told me that "Schlitz" (you know the beer) means vagina (actually I think it literally means slit) in German. Heeheheheh anyway I digress. I'm not sure what else to send .... so it may be a small package. I hope to manage to send it before the end of June.
Okay more later

Gifty and more

So the reason I started this blog was because I wanted to participate in Gifty.
Well this morning I was thinking about all my old friends back in Houston and how bad I am with correspondence. So then I started to think that instead of sending other bloggers a present (still like the idea) that I should send my friends a package. So I will start off with that and once I've done that to my satisfaction then I will join gifty. I'm feeling pretty good about it because it kills two guilty feelings with one stone (bad blogger that I am and bad friend)

Okay so now for the more. There are many Mom's that I hang with and some of them I find to be a bit over protective. (In my mind) I find myself critiquing them for their over-protective behaviors. Well yesterday my dd got her hand stuck in the elevator door. Actually, it was between the elevator door and the wall and it scare the crap out of me. I managed to yank her hand out after freaking and pushing the alarm. She was fine but I was a wreck the rest of the day. Boy it is stressful being a mom. I had flashbacks last night of my mom running out of the house when she heard any of us crying.... a sort of terrified fierceness ...... Sorry mom!

Boring
I've decided that this blog is going to be rather boring without pictures. So sometime within the next week I will go out and buy a cheap digital camera. That way I can show things to the non existent readers of my blog. :)

Today my dd is in Spielgruppe so I have 4 hours to clean the apartment and do whatever. Of course, cleaning usually takes the whole 4 hours. I'm at least determined to clean my hobby desk and organize my projects. But I can't ignore the rest of the place especially since I'm hosting a playgroup tomorrow, which will leave my apartment in a really really big mess. However, I have a Stitch and Bitch night out on Friday that I'm really looking forward too and Sunday is Mother's day and I'm wishing for breakfast cooked by someone other then me!
